When is a bike path no longer a bike path? In Seattle, right now -- and elsewhere in Washington, maybe soon.
If a former machine shop operator from Burien gets what he wants, his new fleet of 20 gas-powered motor scooters will keep whizzing along Seattle's Alki Beach bike path, and eventually spread to others, such as the Burke-Gilman Trail. Separately, a state law takes effect June 13 allowing on local bike paths and sidewalks statewide a new, electric-powered, high-tech scooter called the Segway.
